Create a Group on Iphone. IPhone users can listen to music, watch movies, photos, and surf the Internet, with just one device, not to mention the functionality of the phone. Users can also manage their calendars, email and directory from their computer. With an iPhone, it’s easy to organize your contacts. Toucomment here explains how to create a group of contacts with your iPhone.

How to Create a Group on Iphone

The Apple Contacts application, although very practical and aesthetic, offers a rather limited management of contact groups.

Create a Group on Iphone

Indeed from the iphone, we can not create groups directly in the application CONTACTS (it’s a shame), so how?
The method is easy:

1) connect from a computer (mac or PC) and not an iPad at www.icloud.com

Use your Apple ID to connect, the one you use for your iPhone, your iPad or your Mac. If you have adopted the two-factor identification you will also need to enter a 6-digit code.

2) Go to the Contacts application from the Launchpad  (that of iCloud in this case, see note at the bottom)

at the bottom of the sidebar you click on the + sign and you choose Add a GROUP

3) The groups appear in the sidebar, you can rename them easily

4) Once the group is created and renamed, you can fill them by dragging contacts into it, simply.
If iCloud is activated on your iPhone, iPad and others, these groups will appear in these places.

5) To see them, open your iPhone / iPad CONTACTS application and find at the top left the word GROUPS , click on it, a new window is displayed and then just check this or that group (any iCloud, or one or more of the other groups) so that only the contacts of the selected group (s) are displayed.

That’s it, good fun!

Add a contact to a group

The Apple Contacts application, although very practical and aesthetic, offers a rather limited management of contact groups.

But here are some quick tips to get by.It is not possible to create a group of contacts directly from an iOS device … So you have to go through a computer:

  • in an internet browser, whatever the operating system, on iCloud.com
  • – in the Contacts application on macOS
  • – in the Outlook application on Windows (after downloading iCloud for Windows: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204283 )

From there you can create a group by clicking on:

  • iCloud  : the + button at the bottom of the page, then “New group”
  • macOS  : File, then “New group”

You can then drag contacts into this new group (a contact can belong to multiple groups).

To add a contact in a group on iOS

On iOS it is not possible to move an existing contact in a group, nevertheless it is possible to add a contact by creating it:

  • Open the Contacts app
  • Groups key to display them
  • By default they are all visible, key “iCloud (all)” to deselect them
  • Then touch the group in which you want to add a contact, then OK
  • Create a new contact by touching + , fill in the information, and OK
  • The new contact is now in the chosen group
  • Press Groups again, then iCloud (all) and OK to view all your contacts

Send a message or an email to a group of contacts

From the Messages app  :

  • Compose a new message
  • In the destination field, starts to write the name of the group, it will be automatically proposed
  • Touch the desired group
  • Write and send your message!

From the Mail application . We find the same procedure as in Messages:

  • Compose a new mail
  • In the destination field, starts to write the name of the group, it will be automatically proposed
  • Touch the desired group
  • Write and send your mail!

If a contact with multiple phone numbers or emails, it will appear as many times in the message / mail list to send. Double-key its name in the list to see what is the corresponding number / mail (it appears in blue), then go back to delete it from the list if necessary.

From the aContacts app  :

  • Group key
  • Tap the pen at the top right, then “Send SMS” or “Send an e-mail”
  • Selects contacts
  • Send button at the bottom
  • Selects email addresses or phone numbers (or “All” key at the bottom), then OK
  • Then write your message and touch “Send”

To sum up, the management of contact groups was not easy on iOS, especially without going through a computer or a third-party application.
